Asia's longest high-speed track launched in India to test maximum speed of supercars

  • The track set on 1,000 acres will be used to test high-speed cars

India on Tuesday, June 29 launched Asia's longest high-speed track to be used for testing the maximum speed of cars, including high-end cars.

The track, built on 1,000 acres of land, is located in the central Indian city of Indore and will be used to test the top speed of cars like BMW, Audi, Ferrari, Tesla as well as Lamborghini.

The top speed of such cars cannot be tested on ordinary Indian test tracks.

An official statement by the Minister of Industries and Public Enterprises PrakashJavedekar, who inaugurated the track confirmed it is the longest in Asia.

It is billed to be the solution to all sorts of high-speed performance tests for a wide range of vehicles, besides high-end cars, from two-wheelers to heavy tractor-trailers.

It has multiple vehicle testing capabilities like maximum speed measurements, acceleration, constant speed, fuel consumption -i.e litre/kilometre, emissions tests through real road driving simulation.

The track has been designed to enable cars to achieve a maximum speed of 375 KM/h.

Other capabilities testing vehicles include high-speed handling, stability in lane change as well as high speed-durability testing.

The track's location in central India closer to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs) makes it ideal for foreign OEMs to develop prototype cars ideal for India conditions.

What is more, currently foreign Original Equipment manufacturers go outside India for high-speed test requirements.

Dubbed the oval high-speed track, it is 16 meters wide with 4 lanes and is said to be the fifth-longest such track in the World.

Firms like Volkswagen, Renault, Puzo and FCA are expected to leverage the capabilities of the track and eventually make India a vehicle manufacturing hub.

The flight test was conducted between Nitra International Airport and Bratislava International Airport on Monday, June 28.

Fitted with a BMW engine According to a report by the BBC, the hybrid car-aircraft is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.
