Former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has picked the membership card of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Naija News had earlier reported that NNPP in a statement on its Twitter handle on Tuesday disclosed that Shekarau has officially dumped the All Progressives Congress.
Shekarau who was elected as the lawmaker representing Kano central senatorial district dumped the ruling party following deep crisis.
The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje made effort to stop the defection of Shekarau, days after the former Director-General of the Bola Tinubu presidential campaign team, Abdulmumini Jibrin dumped APC for NNPP.
It was gathered that the presidency was involved in stopping Shekarau from dumping the ruling party, but their effort was not enough.
Shekarau’s decamping to the fast-growing party was witnessed by many of his supporters at the Mundubawa residence of Shekarau.
The leader of the party and former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso was in attendance at the official defection and handed over Shekarau’s NNPP membership card to him.
In attendance were political stakeholders and supporters in the kwankwasiyya camp, leadership of the Shura council in the house of Shekarau and other well-wishers.
